Surrounding area and things to do

Approximately one and a half hours drive from both Belfast and Dublin, Mullinahinch (pronounced Mull - in - a - hinch) is the perfect destination to explore Ireland, both North and south.

The property is located just outside the village of Roslea, in a quiet and tranquil location, yet is a short walk away from the village itself, a short drive from the market town of Clones or a little further to the larger towns of Monaghan, Lisnaskea or Enniskillen. Situated right on the border of the North and South of Ireland, it offers the best of both sides of the border.

The village of Roslea has a lot to offer. Take in some beautiful walks in the forestry and the country side, visit the heritage centre or have a couple of pints of Guinness in the 2 local village bars, where everyone knows your name or soon will. Just like the old Irish saying, strangers are just friends you haven't met yet! There are local places for fishing also (permit required) and a beautiful lough where you can past the time away with the magnificent views. Carnmore offer some amazing viewpoints and for something different check out the story of the Cooneen ghost (not for the feint of heart).

Daytrips from here can offer the marble arch caves and a gin distillery tour in Enniskillen, Castle Leslie estate or Rossmore park in Monaghan, or a little further afield the UNESCO sites of the giants causeway or newgrange.

The wild Atlantic way is a spectacular route around the coast of Ireland and has so many breathtaking places to visit. Join this route for a day trip and head to Sligo or Donegal which are a day trip from here.

Co. Fermanagh, the lakeland county, hosts many attractions. Enniskillen is forty minutes drive away and boasts the Lakeland forum complex, the marble arch caves and the boatyard gin distillery among others. There are canal trips available on Loch Erne and a short trip away are the Devenish islands, a monastic site. The share centre in Lisnaskea hosts some amazing watersport and outdoor activities.

Co. Monaghan also has much to offer, with the Castle Leslie estate (Where Paul McCartney and Heather mills got married) and Rossmore park. There is also the garage theatre which hosts some good theatre, music and comedy nights. Monaghan town has a number of bars, restaurants and nightclubs and is a good location for a night out.

Monaghan town also hosts the Monaghan music festival, which is a feast of Irish country music stars and the Monaghan Blues and Jazz festival. Check these out.

The market town of Clones offers some shops and bars and restaurants. This was once a vibrant town but is now quieter due to recession and people moving to larger towns. It still hosts the Ulster Gaelic football final once a year and if you are lucky to be around on that day then a visit to the town is recommended as the town will be full of both teams fans mixing together, enjoying the atmosphere and having a few drinks post match. Clones hosts a golf course and is famous for where Barry McGuigan, once a world boxing champion is from; in tribute to him Clones has the Barry McGuigan park.
